ABOUT

blk top KOPE is a small business founded in 2018 by Janina Klahold-Terry based in Brooklyn, New York. As a trend forward, gender neutral street- and athleisurewear brand every piece is handmade to order – it is individually cut, sewn, and embroidered in our studio.

Our passion is the creation of high-quality garments that offer comfort and movability. Transparency, inclusivity and a sustainable focus on the sourcing, production, and distribution of our clothes define our ethics.

Our Purpose

OUR MISSION.

Our mission is to create consciousness for the craftsmanship of clothing and for responsible fashion. We do this through high quality garments in street- and athleisurewear.

We create clothes to build space for sustainable fashion products and practices for the active, trend forward, value-oriented customer. We convey with our garments a feeling of security and well-being along with a traditional sense of New York fashion. We show that clothes are gender neutral, and we demand and support inclusivity and diversity within the fashion industry. We are committed to continuously improving our work and products through creative thinking and economical practices to keep a high level of quality.

OUR VISION.

Through our commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility in the world of fashion, we aim to inspire our customers towards a more sustainable future.

GIVING BACK.

For every blk top KOPE purchase we donate 1% or at least $1.00 to The New York Center for Children. As a fashion brand we want to use our platform to give back to the community and support what’s important to us. We believe that we all have the responsibility to stand up for our values. We are grateful for organizations like The New York Center for Children.

In The Studio

THE GARMENT.

Our goal is to make clothes that can be trusted in their quality and comfort.

SIZES // We offer a range of options to fit a variety of body types; in addition to sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, we provide short, regular, and tall lengths. Our garments are tailored to body heights that are shorter or taller than the universal average height, the actual style is not affected. Choose short for heights 5’4” or smaller, and tall for heights 6’0” or taller.

FIT // Our signature look is an oversized, boxy silhouette. You can find the specific fit of a garment in its product description. Note that our garments are gender neutral, therefore the fit is designed to fit both female and male bodies.

THE FABRIC.

Our fabric is ethically sourced from Roopa Knitting Mill in Canada.

Our fleece is a heavy weight knit made of 100% cotton. It has a smooth face and a brushed, soft inside. For example, all of our hoodies, crewnecks, and sweatpants are made with it.

Our jersey is a medium weight knit made of 100% cotton. It has a soft yet firm feel. For example, all of our t-shirts, longsleeve, and shorts are made with it.

For limited availability we also source deadstock fabric in order to eliminate fabric waste. It will be in product description should this item be made of it.

All orders are handmade to order. That means a garment will only be made when you purchase it. This process helps us to eliminate excessive inventory (and therefore possible garment waste) and to be more flexible in the process. You can be sure that each garment that you order is made with thought, care, and love.

MADE TO ORDER.

MEET THE FACE BEHIND

Founder & CEO/Designer/Tailor

JANINA KLAHOLD-TERRY

Janina Klahold-Terry, German-born, living in Brooklyn, NY, is the face behind the gender neutral, sustainability driven brand. As a bespoke tailor and pattern maker, she founded blk top KOPE to offer garments of quality, comfortability, and style that are made under ethical and environmentally conscious conditions. Janina believes in the craftsmanship of clothes and hopes to contribute to the fight against labor and environmental exploitation.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT.

The fashion industry is one of the biggest environmental polluters. We at blk top KOPE aim to keep our footprint as low as possible, wherever possible. Our local manufacturing and regional material sourcing enables us to reduce emissions - your garments won’t have travelled the entire world before reaching you.

To eliminate waste, we reuse fabric scraps to create our one of a kind pieces or donate smaller scraps to be reused for upholstery.

For our packaging, we chose to go environmentally friendly right from the start. Anything that you find in our packaging is FSC certified and acid free with water-based inks. Our mailers are 100% compostable. That means once you dispose of your mailer it leaves the earth exactly as you found it. To dispose your compostable mailer, remove any adhesive labels, place your mailer in the compost and allow nature to do its work!

As we grow, we continue to find new ways to further reduce our footprint.
